Futsal Tournament in Wrexham to Support Local Children’s Hospice

A futsal tournament is set to take place in Wrexham next month, raising funds for a local children’s hospice charity. Futsal is a rapidly growing sport that involves a smaller ball and helps develop football skills. The tournament is organized by Marc Bray, who has been coaching futsal for four years and runs the Wrexham Futsal Girls team. The event is not only a memorial for his late friend Phil Long but also aims to support Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices, which have provided assistance to another friend, Jav, and his family after the loss of his daughter.

The Wrexham Futsal Girls group, which initially started with only six players, has now expanded to over 40 members across three age groups. Futsal has its own set of rules, such as kick-ins instead of throw-ins and a four-second limit for goalkeepers to hold the ball. Marc believes that the sport brings out the best in players, as evidenced by his own daughter winning a scholarship with the Connah’s Quay Nomads football team after starting futsal a few years ago.

The tournament aims to gather around 24 teams, with 16 already registered from various locations including Liverpool, Cheshire, and the local area. Each team is required to pay a £40 registration fee, and all the money raised will be donated to the hospices. Vicky Bradbeer, an area fundraiser for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith, expressed gratitude for the tournament and its support, as it will contribute to providing care and respite for seriously ill children and their families. The tournament will take place at the Plas Madoc Leisure Centre on Sunday, March 17th, and will feature three age groups: U-12, U-14, and U-16. To sign up for the tournament, interested participants can contact Marc Bray or Dan Roach.

By participating in this exciting futsal tournament, the community can come together to enjoy the sport while also making a positive impact on the lives of local children and their families in need of support.
